The Cărturești Foundation is organizing the Cărturino Tour in the diaspora. Over the course of a month, eight children’s book authors and eight illustrators will meet with readers from Romanian communities across eight European countries.
An unprecedented initiative, the Cărturino Tour was launched because, according to the National Institute of Statistics, more than 400,000 Romanian children were born outside Romania between 2009 and 2023. This represents a generation at risk of growing up hearing Romanian but never learning to read or write it.
