A massive wall of riot police is currently deployed directly in front of the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw. Dozens of officers in balaclavas, white helmets with visors down, and full-length riot shields are standing shoulder-to-shoulder in a tight phalanx, separating the institution from peaceful citizens holding Polish national flags.
Why does the government need a wall of riot shields and tactical units to block off a constitutional court from its own citizens? This is the reality of “the rule of law” in Poland tonight.
